Beginning with version 2.0, there is a plug-in available for where2fly, to integrat webcams. You can now get pictures from webcams near your launch site, landing place, and any geographical names or public transport station.

The webcam module depicts the latest image of the webcam, as well as information about the place, height above sea level, and date and time of the picture.

There are over 19,000 integrated webcams worldwide, including 2,000 in Switzerland. Camscollections.ch serve as data sources for Switzerland, and webcams.travel for worldwide data.

The module is optional and costs a modest contribution of USD 0.99, or EUR 0.79 for the development of the integration. To enable it, go to Options, and then Module - Webcam module. The data sources used are freely available and can also be used without where2fly, using the websites http://camscollection.ch and http://webcams.travel, or the iPhone app WorldView.

Note that the webcam module is dependent on these data sources, and no guarantee of a permanent availability can be given. However, further data sources will be integrated on availability. The locations of the webcams can be updated at any time with the update functionality. Should a webcam no more deliver any pictures, or no interesting ones, you may easily disable this location from the context menu, and the webcam will no more get listed in the app.

Before buying this module, you can get an impression of the locations of webcams through the indication of this icon on the map and in the search listings.

Webcam images can be zoomed and traversed by distance from a location.

Note: Getting the webcam images requires an Internet connection. The images are cached and are stored for about 10 minutes on your iPhone, so no new connection is required. An image is typically about 25kB large. This means that you get about 40 images with a megabyte of data volume.
